Care in Times of War, Conflict and Crises: Elevating the Care Economy for Resilience and Recovery (CSW69 Side Event).

 

A High Level Symposium on: Achievements and Challenges in the Arab Region... 30 Years After Beijing with a focus on care work in crises and wars.


The Arab Women Organization, the State of Libya, UN Women and GIZ organized-in cooperation with Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia - a high-level side event aimed at bringing together relevant government representatives and stakeholders to assess the progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, identify gaps, evaluate implementation mechanisms, and propose actionable strategies to promote women's empowerment across the Arab region.

Additionally, this CSW side event aims to understand and respond to the dynamics of caregiving within communities and societies affected by crises and wars, through effective interventions to prevent conflicts and mitigate crises, and to highlight peacebuilding and recovery efforts that effectively address the care needs of affected populations, and especially of women and girls.


Objectives:Provide an in-depth critical review of the progress and challenges in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in the Arab region and identify common ground and solutions to enhance its effectiveness and accelerate its implementation.
Discuss and share experiences among key high-level representatives and participants about the impact of crises and wars on care work dynamics and systems as well as the challenges to provide care in times of conflict.
Advocate for multi-stakeholder partnerships and investments to promote women's empowerment across the Arab region, and in particular to strengthen care systems in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, resilience and recovery efforts.
