Make gender equality a reality.

Lotte Knudsen, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the UN during the International Women's Day celebration at UN Geneva , said that “an ambitious and transformative approach to address the root causes of gender inequality is absolutely necessary", reaffirming the bloc’s commitment to the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration, “Deeply entrenched gender norms, instead of being challenged, are being promoted. The very idea that gender equality should be a priority is put into question,” the Ambassador warned.

Gender equality isn’t just about fairness for women,” she said. It builds stronger economies, more resilient democracies and a more just world for everyone.

The EU ambassador said, she was pleased to see many young voices in the panel, calling youth engagement and intergenerational exchange “key to sustaining and accelerating progress” as they have the courage to “challenge the status quo and outdated norms”, while driving innovation with fresh energy.

By connecting different generations, we can create a stronger, united movement for gender equality that builds on the successes of the past while shaping a future that leaves no one behind.
