The discussions during the side-event titled "Reflection and Review of Gender Equality Progress Within G20" will consider the following points:

  • Overall reflection and review on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment within G20.
  • Reflect on achievements, challenges and gaps on advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment with G20 (including at National Levels)
  • Collective consultation and compilation of strategies and exchange on best practices on advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment within G20
  • Explore policy and collective commitments (way forward) to accelerate actions and commitments to advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment
  • Identify and explore possibility of collaboration and partnership towards ensuring gender-responsiveness and gender-sensitiveness within G20.

Measuring Women's Empowerment in Large Scale Surveys (CSW69 Side Event).

CSW 69 Side Event organized by FAO, IFPRI, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In the past fifteen years considerable progress has been made in measuring women's empowerment . The Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) , developed by IFPRI in 2010, and its adaptations have been used by 271 organizations in 63 countries. Building on the WEAI, IFPRI, Emory University and Oxford University worked in partnership with the World Bank on the development of a new metric for measuring women's empowerment: the Women's Empowerment Metric for National Statistical Systems (WEMNS) . Under the umbrella of the 50x2030 Initiative to Close the Agricultural Data Gap , FAO contributes to the uptake of the metric integrating WEMNS in agricultural surveys of three partner countries: Sierra Leone, Liberia and Tanzania.
