Threats and Opportunities of Digital Technologies: Women in the Public Eye (CSW69 Side Event).
Women in the public eye are prime targets of technology - facilitated violence an disproportionately bear the consequences, including harm on their safety, mental health, dignity and reputation. The event will explore promising initiatives and measures taken in preventing and combating various forms of technology-facilitated violence against women, incorporating a youth perspective. It will serve as a platform to discuss how high-profile women engaged in public or political activism, including journalists and human rights defenders, or women with celebrity status, can be better protected from technology-facilitated violence.
Key areas of focus include awareness-raising, accountability of online platforms providers, and in line with the interpretation of the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention throughout its General Recommendation No.1 on the digital dimension of violence against women, access to specialised law enforcement agencies and prosecution of perpetrators.
