43rd Session, Working Group on discrimination against women and girls.

Launch of the Guidance document on "The rights of women and girls in family life".

The Working Group's Guidance Document (A/HRC/WG.11/43/1) provides States and other stakeholders, including those at the community level and within customary systems, with practical recommendations to achieve substantive equality, promote non-discriminatory, inclusive and rights-based family policies and address the persistent gap between legal standards and the lived realities of women and girls in their family life.

The purpose of this launch event is to provide a platform for further discussions with Member States and other key stakeholders on how to ensure substantive gender equality and uphold the dignity of women and girls within their families and in relation to all aspects of family life. The launch event also provides an opportunity to follow up on previous consultations hosted by the Working Group in preparation of the guidance document.
