Protecting Women and Children: Combating Violence and Exploitation in Surrogacy (CSW70 Side Event).

 

 This side event aims to provide a forum for reflection, dialogue and awareness-raising on the risks of violence and exploitation in the context of surrogacy, particularly for women in vulnerable situations, and children, while promoting a shared understanding of States' obligations to prevent violence, coercion and exploitation in all contexts.

Measuring Women's Empowerment in Large Scale Surveys (CSW69 Side Event).

CSW 69 Side Event organized by FAO, IFPRI, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In the past fifteen years considerable progress has been made in measuring women's empowerment . The Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) , developed by IFPRI in 2010, and its adaptations have been used by 271 organizations in 63 countries. Building on the WEAI, IFPRI, Emory University and Oxford University worked in partnership with the World Bank on the development of a new metric for measuring women's empowerment: the Women's Empowerment Metric for National Statistical Systems (WEMNS) . Under the umbrella of the 50x2030 Initiative to Close the Agricultural Data Gap , FAO contributes to the uptake of the metric integrating WEMNS in agricultural surveys of three partner countries: Sierra Leone, Liberia and Tanzania.
